Grass-roots green: Local citizens, businesses join national initiative on global warming

Focus the Nation: Global Warming Solutions for America

Focus the Nation: Global Warming Solutions for America

Colorado State University is using grass roots to go green. Using an activist approach from the past to address the climate-change concerns of the present, CSU is joining the national initiative Focus the Nation to create a dialogue about global warming. A national teach-in on global-warming solutions for America will engage the nation's decision-makers with millions of citizens at more than 1,000 colleges, universities, high schools, businesses, and civic organizations across the country.

Local initiative

Locally, the CSU-based Focus the Nation invites concerned citizens to join the teach-in Jan. 30 and 31 at Colorado State University's Lory Student Center. The teach-in will feature discussions led by more than 40 researchers, policy-makers, politicians, and business people about the causes and effects of climate change.

The featured discussions, held 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Rooms 228 and 230 of the student center, will address such issues as the effects of climate change on the environment, economics, and national defense and oil supplies, as well as alternative energies, political and policy solutions, reducing carbon footprints, and low-carbon building. A national Focus the Nation webcast will be streamed at CSU Jan. 30, 6 – 7 p.m.

Green democracy

What can government do? CSU also invites concerned citizens to a forum on campus featuring Reps. John Kefalas and Randy Fischer and Sens. Steve Johnson and Bob Bacon, Feb. 1, 3 – 5 p.m., Eddy Hall, Room 212.

Contact John Calderazzo or Sue Ellen Campbell for more information and details on the local discussion schedule. Access green.colostate.edu for local updates and www.focusthenation.org for national initiative information.
